1. When you make your first sale always make sure you follow-up with the customer. For instance, you could follow-up with a "thank you" email which could include an advertisement for other products you sell. You might want to follow-up once every few months but I would suggest sending out an email every week to maximize your ROI. Try to offer useful advice and information, however, don’t just ply them with multiple offers as they will either start ignoring your emails or will unsubscribe from your list for good.
2. You could up sell to your customers. When they're at your order page or once they have purchased the first item you are selling, tell them about a few extra related products you have for sale. They could just add them to their original order or have it as a totally separate order. Many of the top online marketers do this, something they call OTO’s or ‘one- time-offers’. Be careful not to offer them too much or they’ll become irritated and demand a refund for product number one!
3. Suggest to your customers that if they refer four customers to your website, they will receive a full or partial rebate of their original purchase. This method will increase your traffic and sales and will help boost your visibility in the marketplace. You can find free ‘tell-a-friend’ scripts if you search Google and they will help you implement this technique into your site.
4. When you sell a product, give your customers the option of joining your affiliate program so they can make commissions on selling your product. Always create a separate ‘affiliate’s’ page where you can offer them useful material to maximize their sales. Provide articles, ads, sample emails and banners. The easier it is for them to make sales, the more money you will make in the long term.
5. Sell off the reprint or reproduction rights to your products. Again, this will increase your visibility and if your product is presented in PDF format, be sure to include as many affiliate links within the text as possible. This will drastically increase the number of backend sales you make even if you didn’t sell it to begin with.
6. Improve your sales copy. Others might disagree but I think the most important area to master in internet marketing is copywriting. In other words being able to write copy that converts at between 1 and 3 percent. It doesn’t matter how amazing your product is, if the sales letter doesn’t work you won’t make any money. This is why top writers are paid up to $20,000 to write just one sales letter!
7. If you deliver you product by shipping it, include a coupon for other related products you sell in the postal package. It’s an old trick but judging by the fact that Amazon spends millions of dollars per year doing exactly this, it may well be worth it for your business. Make sure, however, that whatever you are offering directly relates to the product that the customer originally bought or you’ll be wasting your money.
